    You’ve likely seen the recent attention in the news surrounding robocalls and cold-calling regulations in the U.S. Several major American carriers have announced they are now actively blocking invalid ANIs (Automatic Number Identifiers) or any ANIs they suspect are associated with robocalling. They are legally authorized to do so.


    What Does This Mean for You?

  • Use Valid, Legally Purchased ANIs: Always ensure that your ANI is legitimate and can be traced back to you. Consumers should be able to call your ANI and reach a proper Business IVR system.
  • Rotate Your ANIs Frequently: Change your ANI up to three times per week to reduce the likelihood of being flagged or blocked.
  • Avoid Illegal Practices: Do not sell or promote illegal services (e.g., IRS scams or fraudulent activities).
    By following these three steps, you can help maintain the stability of your outbound call traffic.

  • Additional Considerations:

    Many cell phone apps automatically block blacklisted ANIs. Some apps are even integrated into carrier services (e.g., Verizon), leading to frequent rejection codes like "503."

  • Call Rejection: If a call is rejected, it’s impossible to know the specific reason. It’s best to take it in stride. If connectivity issues arise, try changing your ANI immediately.
  • Limited Support for Minor Connectivity Issues: VoIP & Calling Minutes will no longer accept support requests related to minor connectivity problems on U.S. Dialer routes. For example, if one number out of thousands cannot be connected, we will not process a support ticket.
  • Handling Blocked Calls:
    If a number is blocked, change your ANI or ignore that number moving forward. Like all other providers, we have no control over carriers blocking calls. We attempt to fail over each call up to five times. If the number remains blocked, there is no way to override it.

  • Robo-Call Misclassification:

    At this stage, carriers aren’t distinguishing between legitimate calls and robocalls. If your call traffic shows short durations and high call-per-second (CPS) rates, your ANI may be targeted for blocking.

  • Network Integrity:
    To ensure quality, only legal telemarketing traffic is accepted on VoIP & Calling Minutes’ network. Allowing fraudulent or “junk” traffic could lead to blocking or termination.
